[Water into Wino] After passing up a $60 red from Anwilka and a $40 red blend from Meinert, I found a $20 Merlot Cabernet blend from Uva Mira. With the stars aligned for a wallet-to-bottle connection - and by stars I mean a wine labeled as Stellenbosch, a decent score by Steve Tanzer and the importer being Michael Skurnik - I brought this bottle home.

Super Sexy Merlot

[the Crush Pad] While, of course, we think of Merlot’s home land as being Bordeaux, Monday’s class journey took us around the world!  From a fresh, vibrant Merlot from Banrock Station (Australia) to the BIG, BOLD and Tannic Saint-Émilion (famous for growing Merlot in Bordeaux) the wines were so fun to taste all side by side.  Some notes on a couple went from a palate of bursting fruit, saturated dirt, funky forest floor to gorgeous crushed red velvet.  Merlot, being one of those grapes that makes itself around the globe pretty good, is hard to showcase in just 6 pours.  Knowing that every corner of the world from New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon could have been part of our drinking journey –

[Iran Human Rights Voice] Razieh Jaafari, is a student from Shiraz University, who had previously been sentenced to a 1-year jail term by the revolutionary court in the city of Shiraz.  Following confirmation of her sentencing by the appeals court, her sentencing order was sent to a section of court in charge of enforcing the order.  According to this order, she must appear in Adelabad Prison in this city.
