Puttanesca is an Italian pasta sauce originating in Naples and traditionally served with spaghetti. The name translates into "in the whore's style".

Italian tradition says that the reason for the unusual name is that in the old days prostitutes would cook this dish and the strong aroma would help to attract men as potential customers. Others say its name came from the fact that it was a quick/cheap meal that prostitutes could prepare between customers.
