Sociedade Agrícola Boas Quintas was founded in 1991, when a group of oenologists, viticulturists and businessmen, decided to pool their collective vast experience in the wine trade and produce single estate wines in the noble and historic Portuguese region of the Dão. The philosophy that inspired the creation of the company was based on the production of wines of the highest quality, but with distinctive Portuguese character. Sociedade Agrícola Boas Quintas has its headquarters in the town of Mortágua, where the small winery lies beside the magnificent family home of the Cancela de Abreus, beneath which are the cool and dimly lit ageing cellars.

Touriga Nacional (50%), Jaen, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) e Trincadeira (Tinta Amarela)

A total of 10 hectares is divided between three plots, two in Mortágua and one in Nelas. The granite soil is slightly acidic, low in nutrients and well-drained. Situated at an altitude of approximately 200 metres and protected from the coastal winds by the mountains of Buçaco and Caramulo, the area is cold and damp in winter, with frequent spring frosts; summer brings hot dry weather. The autumn rains often arrive in the middle of the harvest, and it is not unusual to produce two very distinct wines: before and after the rains.

Whole grapes are carefully transported to the winery in 25 kg boxes, destalked and pumped to the fermentation tanks. Fermentation begins after two days of skin contact, which continues with gentle maceration by pumping over. Further extraction continues after fermentation with two to three weeks of "cuvaison".

After malolactic fermentation, and a natural cold stabilisation from the low winter temperatures, the wines are selected for barrel ageing. 50% of the wine is aged for 9 month in French Allier oak barrels and then released for consumption after resting in bottle for 6 to 12 months.

Colour: deep crimson. Ripe red fruits and chocolate, on the nose with balance supplied by elegant Allier Oak. On the palate: concentrated and ripe fruit flavours of dark plum and red cherry; well structured with smooth tannins and a rich and persistent finish.

13% alcohol; 6,8 gr/l total acidity; pH: 3,6; 2,7 gr/l residual sugar

Will complement to perfection any rich meat dishes, especially oven-roast lamb and beef. Excellent with any game and semi-ripened cheeses.

Serve at 18ºC, preferably after decanting for about 2 hours.

Now or keep for 8-10 years, cellaring at a 17ºC.
