Poderi Castellare di Castellina is a company of about 80 hectares? in the heart of the Chianti Classico? area, close to the village of Castellina in Chianti. The hectares of vineyard? are almost 33, located on the hills of a natural amphitheatre facing southeast.
From the end of the 70's the company belongs to Paolo Panerai. A census of the grapevines, immediately undertaken after the purchase, has allowed to select the best kind of Sangioveto, the noble native version of the Sangiovese, and Malvasia Nera, a variety that allows to give a particular character to Sodi di San Niccolò. An experimental vineyard planted in partnership with the University of Milan, the University of Florence and the Institute of San Michele all'Adige has allowed the continuous research on the best clones as well as the production of grapevines selected for the renovation of the vineyards.
Sangioveto, Canaiolo and complementary cultivars.
Castellina in Chianti. Yield? kept at 5 tons/hectare?. Only native vines are grown with no concession to Cabernet and Merlot (so as to maintain the traditional originality of this famous Italian wine) and with no pandering to fashions such as that of blending in some wine from the south, which turns the beautiful ruby-red of Sangioveto to black-red. A wine that wants to reach, with its uniqueness, maximum elegance?.
