Five centuries of wine history. Niccolò Machiavelli chose this zone of Chianti Classico? for his residence when he was exiled from Florence. It is here that "Il Principe" first saw the light of day, the political doctrine which is still today used as a model of inspiration. The luxuriant hills with their rows of vines well compensated for the Florentine Secretary’s forced withdrawal from Florence. This land, the inn of L’Albergaccio, Machiavelli’s house, the ageing cellars: everything which speaks of the history of the noblemen of this region? where already, five centuries ago, Vermiglio, ancestor of today’s Chianti, was being produced.
0.76 hectares? of vineyard? belonging to the property in the locality of La Villa. The yield? per hectare? is very limited: 65 quintals of grapes in the '98 vintage?.
The bunches, picked by hand during the first ten days of October, were vinified in 25 hl stainless steel tanks with 15 days maceration? at 25°C. After the addition of the must? from a light pressing of the pomace?, the fermentation? was carried out in French Allier barriques; the wine stayed 7 months in wood to mature and was rested for a suitable time in bottle before being released for sale?.
Deep bright? ruby colour. Very distinctive and complex? bouquet? with a definite hint of blackcurrant preserve underlined by notes of vanilla? and coconut.
