Rioja is the most traditional and prestigious wine region? in Spain, its great name being based on the high quality and unique personality of its wines. For some time now Rioja has played the role of both ambassador and pioneer of Spanish wines around the world. Due to the rigorous controls, as well as the stringent quality requirements applied in its production area, Rioja is the only denomination in Spain who can boast the title of Denominación de Origen? Calificada?.
The weather in summer was rather dry?, especially during the months of August and September. Some very light rainfall during the last fortnight of September made for ideal picking conditions between 8 and 27 October with very fine, healthy and perfectly ripe grapes. In the cellar?, these grapes were softly pressed and allowed then to ferment? on the skins and at controlled temperature in order to maximise colour extraction while highlighting the natural varietal? characteristics of the single cultivars.
Crianza? red wines are aged in oak? barrels for 16 months and then in bottle for at least 14 months, depending on the date of release.
Bright?, vivid ruby red colour. On the nose?, aromas of red fruit (red currants? and strawberries?) rest on subtle notes of vanilla? that soften the wine’s vibrant fruit. Deliciously fresh in the mouth with lush fruit and a very pleasant fullness that is highlighted by nicely ripened tannins. A charming wine that reveals in full the attributes of the remarkable 2001 vintage?.
13% alcohol?.
