The Rocca Dei Venti winery was set up in 1999 with the objective of Re-establishing Morellino di Scansano as the main wine of the Tuscan plain known as "Maremma".

The vineyards are situated over five hectares near Scansano, the heart of Morellino's production.

Grapes for Rocca Dei Venti Morellino di Scansano are grown and selected exclusively from this territory.

"Anteo" was the name of a giant, son of Era (the Earth goddess according to Greek mythology); he was immortal as long as his feet remained in touch with the mother earth.

Morellino 85%, Ciliegiolo 10%, Alicante, other autochthonous grapes 5%.

In the winter months the vines are pruned and regulated to promote the best possible conditions for the ensuing spring flowering. In spring, as soon as the first fruits appear, green harvesting is carried out, ensuring that only the finest clusters are selected and brought to successful ripening. This selection lends more strength to the remaining bunches and makes for a smaller crop of much higher quality.

The harvest takes place throughout September. As soon as the grapes are deemed to have reached the ideal stage of ripening, they are promptly and swiftly brought to the wine cellar. This system guarantees greater control of the fermentation process.

The new wine, after the necessary pressing and subsequent elimination of the pomace, remains in steel vats until December. It is then allowed to rest in wood for a period of 4-6 months in order to stabilize and round-off its taste without however detracting in the least from its accessibility even from an early stage.

The last stage consists in bottling the wine and letting it rest and balance for a while before releasing it for consumption.

Intense ruby-red colour with a fruity and forthcoming bouquet. The first approach to the palate reveals ripe red and blackberry fruits complemented by elegant, harmonious tannins. It follows through to a mid-palate which is full and to a lingering after-taste reminiscent of ripe, black cherries.
